Walk Your Pet Month

Did you know that January is walk your pet month?
What a great way to start the New Year with a little exercise for you and your pup. I know it would do us good to get out and shed a few calories after the food fest we had throughout the holidays.
Unfortunately, January isn't the most convenient month to go outside for a stroll when your living in Northeast Michigan. It can be painfully cold for you and your pup, not to mention the hazards of trying to keep your footing on icey walkways and roads while your pup is tugging at the other end of the leash.
Here are a few things you can do to acknowledge "Walk Your Pet Month" until Spring thaw.
  • If you have a treadmill, set it up so you and your pup can take turns exercising. You might ask a friend to help Fido get started. One of you can stand along side the treadmill holding onto the leash, while the other person squats in front of the treadmill handing out a few treats while speaking gentle words of encouragement.
  • If you have access to indoor space, organize some playtime with a few friends and their pets.
  • Schedule daily one-on-one time with your buddy for a game of indoor fetch or tug-o-war.
  • Do some pet-friendly shopping. Spend the day shopping with Fido at his favorite pet shops. Buy a new leash or harness so your ready for Spring!

He'll be forever grateful!
